About the Author
Chris Woodhouse was born in England, and during his teenage years was a keen amateur photographer. After receiving an M.Eng. in Electronics at Bath University, he designed communication and optical gauging equipment before joining an automotive company. His traditional monochrome photography earned him an Associateship distinction from the Royal Photographic Society. After the publication of the first edition of The Astrophotography Manual and astronomy-related activities, he was accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. He has pursued his passion for all forms of photography over the last 35 years and additionally invented and patented several unique darkroom timers and meters, which are sold throughout the world. He quickly found the technical challenges of astrophotography responded well to methodical and scientiï¬c methods, and together with his traditional photographic experience, he produces beautiful and fascinating images.

I really like Chris' pragmatic and systematic approach. The sections on choosing and setting up equipment alone are worth the price - he gives practical advice that will not only help you navigate the bewilderingly large variety of equipment available, but also help you factor location, stability, portability, power supply etc. into your decision. This will help you avoid some of the common pitfalls that await the beginner. I wish I'd read this book before making my own purchases!Some of the content is quite advanced, but I'm OK with this - it means this book will continue to benefit me as my skills evolve.Highly recommended!
I have a license for kindle edition. I have had the book for a few days and I think it is a really good book. It takes a bit to get to where I had bought the book for but I am sure the information is useful for someone just starting in astrophotography. The main complain that I have is the resolution of its graphics. At default display the tables and charts are not readable and when enlarged they are kind of fuzzy and uncomfortable to read. If you want to get a Kindle edition and you are not 18 years old I suggest checking out the graphics and se if it is good for you.
Bought both the kindle and paperback version based on the glowing reviews written here on amazon. Yes, the 400 page book is packed with every minute detail of dynamic ranges, sensor details, meridian flips, pixel rejection, target acquisition, astrometric model properties et al. Illustrations include a few flow charts and small photos of equipment configs. Disappointed in the length of text presented and lack of basic "get started" information for this once hopeful astrophotographer. This book is more of a graduate level college textbook that captures everything the author knowsrather than a backyard practical reference. We made a terrible error in judgement and should have used the look inside the book feature before purchasing.
The best generic astrophotography book I have read by far! Comprehensive reference book that I will continue using for many years to come. Plenty of meat in the technical arena to gain a useful understanding of all aspects of imaging and so many practical examples for current hardware and software that save much trial and error.All the more useful now that I have received my first mono camera and filters!
The book is more a technical reference than a manual. A casual reader SHOULD NOT consider this book but something less complex. The cost of the book is also high but the number of pages, reference material and advice I am sure many will want this level of details.
More than half this book is like a manual for software that I never intend to buy. I didn’t plan to read this right now or even in the near future. Was looking for a reference on photography, telescopes and astronomy. Most of the information after page 100 will soon be obsolete like a magazine and I’m not happy about it. Would return it if I could after purusing for an hour. Shows that the preview on Amazon is totally worthless.

Very impressed by this large volume packed with everything you need to know. I'm experienced at astrophotography and have seen many guide books, and wish I had this on my shelf years ago.
