It sits comfortably between a textbook and a reference book. Each section begins with a physiology section, followed by chapters on specific diseases / disorders. Chapters are detailed enough that you will surely come away with something new, but they are also short enough to make it digestable and easy to reference. Even the chapter on acute MI is only about 15 pages long before detailed references and review questions. Treatment options are covered in detail for the ailment being discussed along with well-documented analysis of the effectiveness of said treatments. It might be a tough read if you are not already familiar with some pathophysiology but this has to be the best patho text specifically for prehospital care. One of the few I have actually read cover to cover.

We've been using this book in my paramedic class along with a few other pathophysiology textbooks/references. I'm halfway through this book and convinced it's worth its weight in gold. If your concerned about not knowing what are the "important parts" to study in your monstrous pathophysiology texts, this book solves your problems. It's got what you "need to know " divided into 30 sections that are each about 12 pages long. And in such a short time the author still manages to tie in the clinical relevance and the current standards in treatment. Very manageable chunks of info whether you're a student looking to tie it all together or just need a quick review of some pathophys. As a student you'll still need your other books, but in terms of quantity & quality material covered vs. hours spent studying, this book certainly gives you the most bang for your buck.

This is one of the most amazing Emergency Medical resources ever made. EVERY EMT, Parmedic, and Emergency Physician should read this book while they are in school. I think it should be a mandatory part of the Paramedic Curriculum. If you are an EMT and are thinking of going to Paramedic next, this book is a PERFECT first step into ALS care.

Dr. Galvagno's Emergency Pathophysiology was an excellent resource for myself during paramedic school and continues to be a go-to reference since I have been in the field. He covers pathophysiology topics in a concise, easy to understand manner that somehow spares none of the important details. While this text is not a definitive reference for pathophysiology, it is a must have adjunct for all levels of prehospital providers!

I have shelves and shelves of Prehospital/Paramedic texts, but for me, this one stands out as my absolute favorite. I have been through it several times and I still enjoy reading it. It takes some tough information and presents it in a way that really sticks with you.Dr. Galvagno does not waste your time with minutia, but takes everycondition and succintly outlines the what, why, and how.I highly recommend this book.

This book is a hard to beat reference to aid in understanding common emergency conditions. It was recommended by my instructor and I'm very glad I took his advice in reading it.

This is the first novel written by this author that I have read, so I had no clue as to what to expect. In some ways, I felt this was a whimsical narration of a story that was germinated as the writer proceeded. Not a bad thing, because spontaneity is intriguing, when well developed in a free flowing manner.BLUSH FACTOR: Suitable reading for the entire family, except the youngsters may grow weary soon.WRITING & EDITING: Any time a writer makes use of the sense of smell, as does this author, he’s going to be on my follow list. This is thoroughly professional writing and editing.I liked the twists and turns, but, frankly, had I not gotten the Audible Edition, I’m not sure if my interest would have been piqued as well as it was.BOTTOM LINEFour stars out of five.

All in all, I liked the book.The story is engaging, in ways also incredible.Descriptions are fantastic, they excite imagination. Style is light, humorous, language fitting to the historical era in the story.What bothered me was that Alice and Ethan seemed undecided in character. I felt as if Alice was a damsel in distress and an independent heroine at the same time, and Ethan was both grumpy and pleasant at the same time. Or maybe I had just too great the expectations, since I have read so much praise of Marc Levy.I was intrigued by the olfactory theme - Alice is a "nose" - she is experiencing the world through smells and remembers smells. This theme alone is enough for the book to be interesting.I liked how both Ethan's and Alice's story were interwoven in the overall story. They are quite balanced and their backgrounds are neatly rationed through the story.I loved the shape and POV of the book. At first there is the usual, 3rd person narrative, and nearing the end, there comes a letter format. It freshens the story and condenses the timespan.There's more of course, but read the book for yourselves. I highly recommend it.

A sweet story that follows a young woman from post war Britain to Turkey as she searches for the answers to a mystery from her past. Alice Pendelbury is a " nose", she designs and creates perfumes, and her life is very ordinary until one day she visits a mysterious fortune teller in Brighton. The stranger tells her that she was born far away in the east and this confounds Alice immensely, as she was convinced that she was born in England. She tries to put it out of her mind, but finds herself pacing the floors at night as she ponders the mystery. Eventually her curmudgeonly neighbor is so fed up that he drives her back to Brighton, and finds himself drawn into the story too, so much so that he finances a trip to Turkey for them both. Could he be the first of the six people that the fortune teller has told Alice she will meet in her quest for answers? As the journey continues we meet truly fascinating characters that leap off the page, and gradually reveal the tragic secrets of Alice's past, while possibly having a role to play in her future.Sweet, simple and moving, this charming tale was a pleasure to read, the author writes with real warmth and heart and has a truly impressive skill when it comes to bringing places vividly to life on the page.I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

Over.Marc Levy is fast becoming one of my new favorite authors and I am so glad that I got to read this book!!It is difficult to review this book without giving anything away and trust me, you DO NOT want to have any kind of spoiler with this book - this book is best read knowing nothing going in but the title and just diving in and savoring it and falling in love with it and with the characters. Alice and Ethan are just such great characters and I just loved them almost from the moment you meet them in the book. They are just so well-written and believable and just so glorious; them and their story. Glorious. Fantastic. Magical. One I am so glad that I got to read and experience. The cover grabbed me (why yes, I do judge a book by it's cover!) and the description intrigued me but I did not expect to enjoy it so much! It was delightful and the narrator was perfect. I found myself sucked into Alice's world and really didn't want it to end. The characters were believable and likable. I will be talking about this book to anyone and everyone that will listen! I have a few books that are favorites and I read annually...I will be adding The Strange Journey of Alice Pendelbury to my list! This may be my book club pick this year and if not I will be recommending they read it. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

I really loved this story. It's one of those whose characters you'll miss once the story ends. Mr Levy is also a writer who can bring a setting to life and put you there. From England to Turkey he weaves his magic, and transports you there with Alice as she discovers whom she is, and why she has travelled to Istanbul in search of love, identity and a life worth living based on the words of a fortune teller. You're going to love reading this book. I promise.

This book is slow moving with lots of boring dialogue. It made me drowsy every time I picked it up. About half way through, I decided to skim through the rest of the book. The ending was as predicted, parents not really her parents, falls in love the neighbor. Glad it over and I can move on

About the Author

Russell Chipman, PhD, is professor of optical sciences at the University of Arizona and a visiting professor at the Center for Optics Research and Education (CORE), Utsunomiya University, Japan. He teaches courses in polarized light, polarimetry, and polarization optical design at both universities. Prof. Chipman received his BS in physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and his MS and PhD in optical sciences from the University of Arizona. He is a fellow of The Optical Society (OSA) and The International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). He received SPIE’s 2007 G.G. Stokes Award for research in Polarimetry and OSA’s Joseph Fraunhofer Award/Robert Burley Award for Optical Engineering in 2015. He is a co-investigator on NASA/JPL’s Multi-Angle Imager for Aerosols, a polarimeter scheduled for launch into earth orbit around 2021 for monitoring aerosols and pollution in metropolitan areas. He is also developing UV and IR polarimeter breadboards and analysis methods for other NASA exoplanet and remote sensing missions. He has recently focused on developing the Polaris-M polarization ray tracing code, which analyzes optical systems with anisotropic materials, electro-optic modulators, diffractive optical elements, polarized scattered light, and many other effects. His hobbies include hiking, Japanese language, rabbits, and music. Wai-Sze Tiffany Lam, PhD, was born and raised in Hong Kong. She is currently an optical scientist in Facebook's Oculus Research.​ She received her BS in optical engineering and her MS and PhD in optical sciences from the University of Arizona. In her research she developed robust optical modeling and polarization simulation for birefringent and optically active optical components, components with stress birefringence, the aberrations in crystal retarders and polarizers, and the modeling of liquid crystal cells. Many of these algorithms form the basis of the commercial ray tracing code, Polaris-M, marketed by Airy Optics. Garam Young, PhD, graduated with a BS in physics from Seoul National University in Korea and received her doctorate from University of Arizona's College of Optical Sciences, also earning Valedictorian and Outstanding Graduate Student honors. She then developed polarization features and optimization features for CODE V and LightTools with Synopsys in Pasadena, and she currently works as an optical and illumination engineer in the Bay area. Interesting array of characters and a truly evil one, but even for him and his deeds, Ms. Riley posits redemption versus revenge. This is admirable when I personally wanted to strangle him just reading about him or shoot off one of his appendages. As usual with her books, the historical detail is spot-on and the sense of place very well done, including the physical locations/directions of lowlands and Louisiana. I actually went to a map and checked at one point because I thought that can't be, but she was right. The madness in the title appears to come from some slightly madcap antics/actions of the heroine.

I took my time with this book because it is so layered and intertwined it needed to be savored. I loved the characters and I can well understand how often the two main characters misunderstood each other- what a whirlwind love affair.

Story was great liked everything about it held my interest couldn’t put the book down I usually I read regency romance

I really liked Mississippi Madness by Eugenia Riley. Jasmine and Jared are a wonderful couple and the story is full of action. I can't wait to read more of this author's books

I really expected more from this one. When I purchased it, there were zero 1 or 2 star reviews. But, I found the main characters to be more exasperating than likeable. One minute Jasmine is strong and confident, the next she is a complete idiot. One minute Jared is delightful and caring and the next he is being so totally unreasonable as to make you want to shake him. The villain is written as if he is invincible and in the end is taken down in a totally humiliating way as if he was totally helpless. Nothing in the whole book was consistent and as all the secrets are revealed, it is just too much and too improbable to be believable.

Eugenia Riley has another winner with her "Mississippi Madness." Set in Natchez in the old South, the story is sweet, poignant and entertaining. Riley has a true gift for bringing her readers into a time and place that can only be visited through imagination.

Enjoyable story. Not to realistic, but still fun. Enjoyed secondary characters as much as primary. Definitely light reading. I'm glad I read it.

The female character fought her attraction to the male lead too much to be believable. The fact that the villian was so hard for people to spot was laughable, given the times. the chemistry between the H/h wasn't there for me. If you want a much more entertaining read with a STRONG female character and a steamy relationship, check out this author's "Haunted Bathtub" book.

UPDATE at end of review.I intended to write my review after 3 weeks of following the Brain Fog Fix plan, but as I read the book, I quickly realized that I already do everything in this book. I made these changes a few years ago, and they worked incredibly well for me. I'll explain that at the end of my review. I chose this book because my elderly mother saw it discussed on a daytime talk show, and she asked me to buy it and help her follow the plan. Mom has dementia and doesn't realize that she doesn't have the type of brain fog described in this book. The book does discuss dementia, and overcoming brain fog can be helpful in pushing back the onset of dementia for some people. However, my mother is not the target audience for this book. Of course, she doesn't realize that.I had this book in my cart for two weeks, as I was on the fence about it. I was not familiar with Dr Dow because I don't watch daytime TV or reality programming, which he is apparently known for. I wasn't sure if the book would be a wise investment. I accepted the book through Vine, and I'm glad I did. Overall, I believe this book can help many people, and I am living proof that the methods described can make a real difference in ridding brain fog and becoming more productive.This book was written for those of us who have ever fallen into the trap of eating processed foods while ignoring nutrient rich vegetables, and have forgone activity for lives of convenience, or lack of time or energy. The choices we make have a strong bearing on how our brains function, and brain fog is an all too common side effect of the Standard American Diet and lifestyle. These choices can also predetermine our future brain health, which is probably something most of us don't think about. We have more power and control than we realize.What's in the 3 week plan? The first week involves dietary changes. Take out everything that may cause brain fog, and replace it with foods that improve it. It's stringent, but also very flexible. Anyone can do it. You'll also work on improving your mood. You can loosen up a little on the diet the second week, but you will increase activity, improve sleeping habits, and learn new things to stimulate your brain. The third week is called a spirit revolution. There are many options, including religion, meditation, a connection with nature, or even political awareness.None of the advice in this book is ground-breaking, and it can all be found elsewhere from very reputable medical websites. However, it is very helpful to have it consolidated in one place, especially to someone who hasn't taken the time to search through multiple resources. This book is also written in a manner that is very easy to follow and understand. The book includes many case studies that help explain how this information can help those that put it to use. I know that this works, and that brain fog can be cleared up if we are willing to make changes to our diet and lifestyle.Brain fog caused me to float through my days in a near stupor, never really getting anything accomplished. I'd forget why I went into the next room. I had trouble concentrating. If you are considering this book, you already know how badly brain fog can affect your life. A few years ago, I started choosing food based on nutrients, not cravings. I chose the most colorful, nutrient dense vegetables and fruits available. I chose lean proteins, and high fiber foods. I cut way back on grains, and I gave up all added sugar as well as artificial ingredients. I cooked from scratch, giving up processed foods. I began exercising, working up to an hour a day on the treadmill. I discovered meditation, although it was difficult to master at first. Once I did, it made me feel incredibly relaxed. I became more social. I studied a second language. The result of these changes was a brain that was on fire! My energy levels went through the roof, and I even felt more confident.By the way, I am in my 50s. I'm a grandmother, I work full time, and now I even help take care of my elderly mother. I'm a very busy person, but I found the time to plan and make these changes. It DOES take time and effort to improve our lives, but it doesn't have to be difficult. The quick results provide all the incentive you need to keep going. The Brain Fog Fix offers real advice for real people. It's do-able.Mom isn't going to get better, but we are going to walk her through the steps in this book. Maybe it will help slow down the progression of her dementia, maybe it won't. But it will give her hope, and that can greatly improve each day, one day at a time.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with brain fog, or who has a loved one that needs help.UPDATE: Dr Dow recommends a daily dose of turmeric and black pepper, which is good. However, he recommends 1/2 tsp turmeric with 1/2 tsp black pepper in an ounce of cold water. Cayenne and ginger are optional. Don't do it! Yes to the turmeric, NO to 1/2 tsp black pepper! Just a PINCH of black pepper is enough to make. Black pepper not only makes turmeric curcumin more bioavailable, it also can impact any prescription or OTC medications you may take. Please research your medications first to make sure you are safe. You can consume turmeric at the same time as a meal with a little bit of fat, as fat also increases the bioavailability of curcumin.

This is a very good book for anyone that is interested in not only cleaing thier mind but making their life calm and healthy. Having a family history of Alzheimers this book was especially interesting to me. Many of the things that Dr. Dow says I have read elsewhere, but he goes in to much more detail. The only complaint I have is that when reading the fish one should eat and the fish to stay away from I found that the more common fish are the ones to not eat. I immediately tried to puchase some of the healthy fish, but found that I couldn't find places to puchase it. It would be much more helpful if information was included on where to puchase some of the foods listed in the book that are what you should be eating. Remember many people that read this book live in rural America and don't have the resources of big cities.

I bought this book as a present for my aunt. She is scared because of early signs of dementia. I saw the interview Dr. Mike Dow did on The Doctors tv show. That interview persuaded me to get the book and I'm so glad I did!! It is a treasure. It will aid in everyday maintenance and getting into a brain exercise regiment. Brain exercises are the best thing to aid us in keeping our minds well maintained. It is a must read.

The book revealed that some types of food can make disaster in organism, especially in terms of brain. All facts are grounded in science reports.Also, author makes recommendations regarding good food for brain and mind. Excellent. Book proved to me my guessing, when I eat something I do not feel well and cannot think clearly.

I ordered this after seeing the author on TV. The book makes sense and is helpful in understanding we have some control over the outcome of our brains functionality. I would recommend this to all who have concerns over brain fog. Some of the tips and guide lines have helped us both.
